The Hahndorf Football Club is sad to announce the passing of three time Premiership Player and Life Member Ray Thiele. Ray passed away aged 82 on October 29 after suffering a series of strokes. Debuting in defence as a 16 year old in 1958 Ray’s career took off the following year when he was moved to full forward. Ray became the clubs leading goal kicker in 1959, a feat that he was to repeat again on three other occasions in 1964, 65 and 66. Ray’s presence up forward was a major influence in Hahndorf’s triple Premiership successes in 1963, 64 and 66. Following his retirement from playing Ray was awarded club Life Membership. Employment opportunities may have led Ray to a new life in Millicent but he always remained a Magpie, regularly returning to Hahndorf for major functions and to watch the odd game or two (as long as neither interfered with a fishing or camping trip ). Ray will be remembered by those who knew him as a modest man who always had time for others. Vale Ray!
